Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. (MSC), and arguably fee only financial planning itself, originated in Vancouver in 1972. This was when our firm’s co-founders identified the need for comprehensive, fee only personal financial advice for individuals and families in Vancouver and beyond.
“Fee only” was crucial, if virtually unheard of at the time. To co-founders Doug Macdonald and David Shymko, it seemed obvious that client fees should be their sole source of compensation. They believed people would willingly pay for this exceptional level of independent, objective advice, untainted by any questionable incentives or outside conflicts of interest.
Fast-forward to today, and it appears our co-founders’ bold vision was on target. To this day, we’ve remained a national leader among financial professionals, advocating for investor rights; transparent dealings; and fiduciary, best-interest levels of care.
